Dear Limestone Dust Poetry Festival Supporters,
In the past, much of the monetary support for our much loved LDPF has come primarily from two sources: the staff and the business community.
The staff, which has been less and less able to carry the weight of the expenses over the past few years, is now unable to carry them at all, with few exceptions.
We have also depended upon the business community for much of our support in terms of donations, both monetary and in-kind, such as door prizes, food catering, items for gift bags, discounts on services. However, in the current recession, businesses are finding it more difficult to make donations--not just to us--but to numerous charitable organizations which depend on these businesses to survive.
Therefore, this year, we are turning to our LDPF community itself for donations to help us pull together our very special 10th Anniversary Celebration, on Saturday, September 10th, at Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment, first floor. We have three fine guest poets to read: Kathleen Thompson from Mobile; Huntsville's own Jimmy Robinson; and J. Barrett Wolf from New York. We are making an early call for submissions so that we can produce our usual quality anthology that represents our entire community, not just one small segment of it. We hope to serve up, once again, barbecue and potato salad to our LDPF family. (No one ate the pizza!) And, of course, to enjoy the surprises of open mic, in hopes that new voices can be heard, as well as older ones.
Below is a donor list, designed by our 2011 President, Ruth Braswell. I hope you will contribute to one of these creative categories and go down in LDPF history as having given an extra hand to making our 10th Anniversary Celebration something to write a poem about!
Thank you in advance for anything you can do to assist us.
Yours in the spirit of poetry--which belongs to all of us,
Bonnie Roberts
